New Image: AR3664 & AR3668

I don't think I've ever seen anything more complicated on the sun in many decades of observing. It is probably the largest sunspot group I've ever seen too. Taken with 12" SCT and Canon SLR + x2 barlow - with EOS backyard. 2000 images using 100 of the best. The 'close up view' shows a little more detail, but I'm none the wiser as to what is going on. The individual spots are clearly interacting. A shame it is heading for the other side of the sun, but we have a few more days yet.

some think it is a bigger spot than Carrington one.

Thank you to everyone for their thanks and comments. I've never been able to take really sharp photos of sunspots, but they are fascinating to see. Large groups like this are rare. I understand that this group is as large are the 'Carrington' group in 1859, but what the effects will be, I don't know. I am certainly going to be watching the northern sky tonight!

Great pics, thanks for sharing. If your skies are clear you'll certainly be in for some nice aurora tonight!'

All the best,
