Re: Spectrum Telescope Solar Filters
I use one on an At50,Mike Q wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 11:50 am So has anyone used Spectrum Telescopes glass solar filters? If so what the scoop on them. Thanks

What I know is that baader film is a better option and provides a much better image both visually and when employing a camera.
Before this SS glass filter I ran an orion glass filter on an etx90, the baader film again though is the better option imho.
If you run glass,
The glass is glued in a metal housing with a semi soft epoxy but even with that any of the slightest pressures on the housing will migrate to the filter glass bending it and totally destroying what little wave front is existing.
So in securing the filter housing to the telescope with an adhesive foam liner ment to create a friction fit the liner must be evenly and correctly applied , any screws pressure tightening the filter to the telescope must be snug but not over tight, or the applied tension will simply negatively affect the views.
The baader film does not require that particular extra care but unlike film a glass filter can last decades, I still have the orion from 15 years ago and it looks and works fine.
Best of Luck...

I have Orions glass filters for my binoculars for when i do solar observation with them, i am very verse in getting the filters just right in tightness. Thanks for the comment

Re: Spectrum Telescope Solar Filters
Many of the glass filters available are not made with optical glass so also decrease resolution.
After many years of solar viewing I have discarded my glass and mylar for Baader film and a Baader Herschel wedge.
