Harmonic mounts and payload capacity Pegasus NYX-101
I've seen one now that claims to handle 20kg with no counter weights and if you add counter weights it can handle 30kg.
Pegasus NYX-101
I will be eventually adding a third mount to my kit and this one would be ideal if it lives up to that hype

Thank you for the reminder of CN, I usually only go there for the classifieds. If anyone else is interested, includes responses from Pegasus as well, very good resource.

Awesome, now I understand the high weight capacity. My only real concern now is PE at the longer focal lengths with this type of mount. I haven't done anything with guiding other than what's default. And learning where in the sky to calibrate at!JayTee wrote: ↑Fri Jan 27, 2023 8:57 pm Check out this great article.

Re: Harmonic mounts and payload capacity Pegasus NYX-101
I don't know if I would buy a mount that the company says not to use for much more than 900mm focal length. There are others at roughly the same price point ore perhaps a little more expensive that are more robust, and the company doesn't bad mouth it. I researched the Nyx-101 and the company had it guiding a C-11 at 2800mm focal length with good guiding results. The last I knew about teh AM5, it would only work with the ASI Air but I may be wrong about that. I stopped looking at it when ZWO said not to go out much past 900m focal length.
Food for thought...
Clear Skies,
Chris

Re: Harmonic mounts and payload capacity Pegasus NYX-101
Nope, not going to sway me now. They should not have put that limit to it in the beginning. Or perhaps fully tested it before bringing it to market. I watched the videos for the Nyx-101. It was fully tested for load capacity before bringing to market. That one is more expensive though, but it can carry up to 60 pounds, 40 without counterweights. I doubt a C11 would perform very well on the AM5. It's 27.5 pounds by itself, now let's add some gear to it. The C11 in the pic has no additional gear on it. Highly unlikely in the field for an imager. I added a linear bearing focuser to my C8, 2.5 pounds, a second rail, another pound, computer, camera and some additional equipment. Now you have to add counterweights to carry it and you're really pushing out to its limits.
What's really interesting though about that photo on the web site showing the C11 doesn't even have a guide camera on it. Obviously, a studio shot for marketing after they realized they shot themselves in the foot, IMHO, with the limited focal length.
I usually don't buy from a company that can't market a product properly. Their other flagship product lines also had issues when first introduced. Another reason why I tend to avoid ZWO.

Chris

Re: Harmonic mounts and payload capacity Pegasus NYX-101
This lesson I am learning with the C8 at 1565mm. I had a full good night last night with it for the first time but had to delete about 15 out of 45 subs. Watching one sub have nice round stars then the next sub is misshapen and the next couple of subs are good, then another egg. LOL!
I'm curious too about why the initial limit of 900. Perhaps their carbon fiber tripod isn't up to handling the weight? They talk about a beefier tripod to support the higher weight loads.
