Sketch of Mars with Olympus Mons
I suppose it is not Olympus Mons itself , but the orographic clouds above it. In the sketch it is the bright spot near the bottom.
It was quite difficult to catch, actually. I was observing simultaneously by cellphone with another observer. When I was already packing up he whatsapped me it had become visible in the C11. Within minutes I was ready again and observed it too. So if it wasn't for him, I still had not seen it. As I sat down again I suddenly became aware of a very slight brighter feature which I had overseen all that time. It wasn't visible all the time, but popped up and went again. After some 6 "popups" or so I decided I had seen it.
Like an artist is allowed in his impression, the view of the Volcano is exaggerated in the sketch. If you want to experience how faint it was, stand back 6-9 feet from your laptopscreen.
I already mentioned in the Reports Forum I used a Moon&Skyglow filter. That really helped. Without it the Mars disc was too bright and I wouldn't have found it.
I always claim not to use filters on planets......well, I have to reconsider. Never too old to learn..
