Baader 1.25" Classic Q-Eyepiece Set
by Bigzmey

Typically, I advise against buying EP kits. In most cases you don’t save much over buying individual EPs and end up using only a fraction of what is included. This set however is a happy exception. Not only does it provide a substantial savings over buying individual components, but they also are...

Thanks for a great review of a wonderfully well performing AND economical eyepiece set. I like this set so much I've bought 3. Two for myself to accommodate binoviewing and one for my grandson.

Thanks nFA! This set is a hidden gem in a world of wide fields. Should be a serious contender for anyone looking to upgrade from stock to premium quality EPs on a budget.

I've got the 10mm ortho, but none of the rest of the set. The 10mm has been great for digging out very faint and small galaxies, Pluto, and moons of Uranus and Neptune. :D

I've been saving for a field flattener for my ED80, but since I'm finding AP to be a bitter and hateful endeavor, I think I shall re-allocate my funds for Q-turret set. :D

Initially, I got the set for the EPs and Barlow, but the turret is really fun tool. It basically turns a set of your favorite minimal glass EPs into a zoom. Switching powers fast an painless.

In some of the scopes you may run out of in focus travel with Q-turret. The workaround is to get a prism diagonal, which have shorter light path compared to a mirror.

And I just love the 2.25x and 1.3x Barlow factors.

Yes the turret works fine on a substantial OTA. On a light one like my VMC110L one can wind up getting off target.

The eyepieces aren't perfectly parfocal but the differences in focus are rather small. Parfocalizing rings could be an easy fix but I haven't bothered.

The Barlow factors are very nicely designed. Get more nondegenerate choices that way. When using the turret I like to set up using one barlowed and one not.

Hello Andrey,

and thank you for the excellent review article on the BCO set.

I have just the 6mm and 10mm orthos, and the Barlow.
The orthos are possibly using some new glass materials allowing to expand the AFOV to 52°, and to stretch the eye relief. And with the HT technology, they show more faint stars in the clusters.

The set is a very good buy for the money,

I agree. I was very impressed by the greater contrast internal to the Merope reflection nebula when I directly compared them with TV Panoptics, Vixen NPLs, and TV Plossls.

They are also very nice on planets too!

Might one consider buying the turret only and then using different eyepieces?

HT coatings and wider FOV make them excellent faint fuzzy hunters.
I agree. I was very impressed by the greater contrast internal to the Merope reflection nebula when I directly compared them with TV Panoptics, Vixen NPLs, and TV Plossls.

They are also very nice on planets too!

Very nice review! Also very informative that they outperformed the TV Plossls and others on faint fuzzies. They are definitely a worthwhile set with many unique points to them.
