Choosing a DSLR Camera

#1

Post by Glambert »

I'm in the market for a DSLR camera but really don't want to spend the earth as I'm constantly told i don't have to. However, the problem is nobodu ever tells me what camera is good on a budget! When i say budget i mean around £500 max! UK money. I'm willing to also look at second hand as there are aome really good businesses locally that sell refurbushed second hand cameras (body only). The problem i have there seems tk be millions! What i really need to know is any recommendations and if not that then what specs should i look for as a minimum and also what the key things are. Thanks Gary

I have been using a Canon Rebel T3 that I purchased used 6 years ago. It's the only camera I've ever used, and, still use today. I consider it an excellent starter camera. I control it with a software program named BackyardEOS which works very well.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Steve

I always recommend the Canon T3i, not the T3. It was the first model to have an articulating screen which makes AP/life so much easier. And this camera, used, will fall well within your budget.

Cheers,
JT

Are you using it strictly for astrophotography? I was recommended a used t3i as well, and I regret not going with that. Actually, because I only use my cameras for AP, I kind of wish I went with a dedicated cooled AP cam. While DSLR's are user friendly, easier to learn with, and you don't need a computer to use them, a cooled color CMOS (dedicated astro cam) in your budget is another option :) I would research it and see if it's something you would want!

I have heard and seen only good things about the canon T3 but if one is in the market for a new camera that you can use for all types of photography without modification you have to consider the Fuji X

Very pleased with my 600D. Second hand from ebay. I run it from an ac power supply.

I'm using a T3i and I'm happy with it. Most capture software is compatible too. I'm using APT for camera and mount control and it works nicely.

I would also highly recommend Astrophotograhy Tool on your laptop to run your "new" Canon camera.
