Dovetail question.

I have narrowed down some good AP equipment here: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=5739&start=80

I saw that there was no dovetail coming with the telescope, so I asked if it needed one in the Orion live chat. Pat, a staff agent, said that I did. I'm a bit confused now. :?

Yes you will need to purchase a dovetail plate for it.
I would suggest a long 11"- 12" to help with balancing everything out.

How can a 12" fit the 11" telescope? :?

The tube is 38.6" long, the dovetail is attached to the two tube rings which can be spread apart and moved forwards and back to achieve balance for the telescope/ camera and other gear.
What mount will you be using this on?

Nice, I believe it is capable of using either a Vixen style plate or a Losmandy style.
If purchasing a Vixen style I would suggest a solid one instead of the regular extruded ones, a bit more expensive but much more stable.

I use a Vixen SXP myself, mounts can get expensive though this is still the lower end.

Luckily no, that is expensive enough :)
Have fun with the new imaging telescope and mount when it arrives!

How do I connect the Geoptrik Vixen with the telescope? Do I just slide it?

On the bottom of the tube rinds there is a hole that will go through them and the bar.
You will figure it out once it all is in hand. The dovetail sits like in the image, narrow (top) goes against the rings, wider (bottom) goes on the mount.
You can either use the single holes, a single hole/ slider or both sliders depending on where you need to place your rings.

So, just to check, would including the dovetail be the actual complete set for AP?

That is all you will need to attach the telescope to the mount saddle.
I do not know if the dovetail comes with the bolts needed to hold it and the rings together or if they are included with the telescope.
If not you can go to the hardware and get two bolts and nuts for it.
