Our closest star requires special tools and techniques to capture and process. But the results can be spectacular. Right now our sun is in a quiet period, so we don't see near as many solar images being taken, with that being said, we do get a few from time to time. Today's APOD is a great example...

btw I enjoye the annotation about the target, you show it in a Maner that keeps it short and interesting. Most of us just Chuck it up and say what gear was used and how many frames and leave anyone new to the target to do research and sometimes people just drab on about it! 100 million light years, 30 degs from Sagittarius, emmits super gamma Rays. On and on 😂

Thank you, Gordon and the co-administrators for the selection. I'm honored indeed.

That shot was made with a SkyWatcher 100ED scope (f/9) equipped with a heavy-duty, 2" Crayford focuser. On the back end...
A Baader UV/IR-cut filter placed in front of the 90 deg diagonal
A Quark-Chromosphere set at +3 for the surface and -2 for the prom and spicules
A ZWO ASI174MM-cooled cam

1000 frames captured @65 FPS with SharpCap software... Gain 158 & Gamma 68. Here's a pic of the rig:
SW 100 ED.JPG
100 frames stacked in AutoStakkert II, and a Lucy-Richardson deconvolution via IMPPG.
Color added and a few "tweaks" in Photoshop CC, and she's ready to go. :)
