It is a decent price, but that is the price for a new scope coming up in a couple of weeks when the Christmas sales start.

Cheers,
JT

Are you window shopping for visual or AP?

Visual. But I like the idea of having a scope with high quality optics, a big aperture, and with a reliable goto mount. I worry about the long-term reliability of the mounts from Meade and Celestron, based on what I see on-line. Considering a Losmandy G11 variant.
I am also considering a Dobsonian (e.g., https://www.obsessiontelescopes.com/tel ... /index.php) with ArgoNavis and ServoCat, if I become persuaded it will be reliable. Mostly just weighing all the options right now.

I am considering larger SCT for visual two, but agonizing over whether double or triple the price of HD vs plain worth it.

Any thoughts on that?

JG, since you already have C11, I would like to hear from you to. :)

I have had the opportunity to use a C11 and C11 Edge side-by-side at a dark site. The C11 gave great views! The C11 Edge gave great views with the stars looking rounder in the outer third of the FOV. But honestly, did my eye really care -- not really. AP-wise the need is there for this flatter FOV, visually (at least to me) not so much. Would I spend the extra $400-ish for the Edge for visual only, NOPE. JMHO.

Cheers,
JT

I have not yet look through neither, but I like the sharpness of my plain C8. For some reason there is a surplus of used plain 11" on the market. You can get one in a nice shape for a very good price. Gentleman in my club has one on sale with feathertouch focuser for $1000. :)

Good luck either on the C11 or a Dob purchase. If you want to do much planetary or lunar observing consider the C11, if mostly deep-sky maybe get the Dob. And as JayTee remarks it is likely that Celestron will hold a holiday sale - I always get alerts about Celestron sales in my email in-box so they are fairly frequent.
