My report - cloudy nights

#1

Post by helicon »

Don't seem to be able to get out at all.

Last week the moon peeked for a second through the clouds and shone on the fog covering the lake. But then in few minutes it had disappeared. I'm trying to enjoy the Spring sights but it's rough for now. The central U.S. is supposed to be deeply impacted by storms tonight and this weekend. Good luck to all, and stay safe.

Good luck to you too, both on the storm front and the skies. The only clear nights I've had it's below freezing, and I'm just not into that anymore. Im with Andrey, most of my astronomy related pursuits involve solar... Migkt be time for an HA scope ;)

Again, good luck!

With Sun been super active even white light is entertaining, but HA is pure solar nirvana! :D

Same here, seems to be the same everywhere!

Although Clear Outside says I might get a look in on both Sunday night and Monday night, the BBC says not!

It would seem that not only is there more moisture in the air across the planet, it is getting harder to predict where the clouds will be too!

This year has been better for me so far. I have had 8 nights out since the start of 2024. Which is pretty good for a guy who only really only gets Friday or Saturday nights. February was unusually mild this year and I was able to get out more. So while it is cloudy now, as April normally is, I am not going to complain too much.

Me too I normally have a look around in April and we had good 2 days so on the 3rd day get up early but its full clouds , they clear by 10am , but winter is coming here best time for me all clear and it gets dark after 5pm ,(summer is 7) and its all dark at 6am and clear 90% of the time , temp drops to around 0 deg on a bad day but most nights around 5 so ok, In summer I dont even bother, but have a grab and go 90 Mak on an EQ1 mount that I use for the fun time when you doge the clouds
Now I go 'home' to central Europe every year in Summer (June/July) but by the time its dark most have drunk so much beer that stargazing is the last thing they want to do , have shown a few people , but its always late at night , after 10pm
To do stargazing in winter (in central Europe) is madness for me , there are a few clear days but one needs a heated observatory
