Finally Installed The New Gear

#1

Post by JayTee »

It's been about 5 months that I've had a ZWO EAF (electronic automatic focuser) and the ZWO 1.25" EFW Mini Electronic Five-Position Filter Wheel. On Monday I decided to finally get up off my behind and installed the EAF and it was a very simple procedure. The only additional equipment needed were two M4-0.7 x 25mm Socket Head Cap Screws. These were used to secure the motor bracket onto the base of my ES 102 f/7 APO refractor Crayford focuser. It was easy peasy! The filter wheel, installed yesterday, was also a simple procedure once I got the spacer distance correctly figured out for the FF I'm using (AT2FF). In my case, I needed 36mm of additional spacing between the EFW and the FF. This gave me the necessary 55mm from sensor to FF.

Both of these new pieces of gear were instantly recognized by all "could be used" titles like N.I.N.A., SharpCap, and ASI Studio. So now I just need the clouds to leave so I can use my new Optolong L-eXtreme dual-band filter installed in the EFW.

Here's the proof! Don't poo-poo the cable management, this "freestyle" method works. Also, the cable going up and over the EAF is the temp sensor. I figured it was best to just leave it "dangling" in space near the EAF to get an accurate reading. It is also in keeping with the "freestyle" cable management method.
