New Image: Sun April 20th SharpCap Live Stacking

#1

Post by Xio1996 »

Hi Everyone,

It was blue sky (for a while) here on the Isle of Wight. So I "lugged" out the Celestron 4SE and setup for some white-light Solar observing.

The images were captured with SharpCap Live Solar Stacking tool and a home-made Baader Solar Film OD5.0 filter as per usual. I had to remove some pesky dust rings and crop/resize in GIMP, but otherwise the images are directly from the live stack. I went for the classic orange look today :icon-smile:

Snapshot at 12_40_05 of Stack_00001_WithDisplayStretch.jpg

I never realised, that while using SharpCap's live Solar tool, you can use the image area selection tool to just stack the selected portion of the Sun, while the rest of the image is "live" and unprocessed. Really cool! In the case of the image below I could see the clouds appear and saved the image, just in time :icon-smile: The stacking framerate shot-up as I guess SharpCap is doing far less processing.

The image below is a crop of the stacked area from the above image.

An enjoyable session and something new learnt

Have fun.

Nice solar live viewing Pete,

I really enjoy my imaging/observing time, and guess I am a live viewing solar enthusiast of sorts.

Always seeing interesting transits and playing different filters, tweaking on screen settings well beyond whats required for basic data collection. I have three pairs of glasses at hand, Magnifiers for the monitor, Polarized sporting sunglasses for judging the sucker holes and raptures and of course Solar glasses too for those larger active regions.

Just yesterday pre session while sols clearing the trees 7 geese in formation clouds drifting the Sun all in a couple seconds, still observationally priceless even without its record.

Great captures Pete, nice you had some clear skies; seems a few of us did :D

I realized I need to upgrade my SharCap to 4.1, couldn't find that feature here. That's when I noticed I still had 4.0  I'd love to give that feature a try!

Thanks for the inspiration and all the best,
Mark

Quality imaging Pete.

Is the Live Solar Tool in the New SharpCap 4.1 release?

I never used 4.0 because it always locked up on me when I changed the ROI. But 4.1 doesn't so I'm hoping for some sunny skies!

Hi Graeme,

Yes, it is in SharpCap 4.1.

Tonight, I was using the feature on the Moon with my CPC-800 (F10 & F25 with 2.5x barlow). It is a really great feature in SharpCap.

Have fun.
