New Image: Prepping for April 8th.

Today seemed to be the first day I had off from work and the Sun was visible in several weeks. I took this opportunity to do some more testing with my rig to make sure everything is working ok.
This is a simple test exposure on Rig#1 which consist of a Canon 5DM2 and Canon 600mm f4 lens riding on a CEM25 mount with a Baader ASTF solar film filter.
This is my widest angle view for the eclipse. I hope it is wide enough to capture the entire corona. North is UP in the photo. Thoughts?


Canon 5DM2, ISO200, F5.6, 1/3200sec exposure time. I opened the RAW file in Photoshop and saved as a JPEG. No other work done to it.
Active region 3614, which is the old AR3590, is clearly visible. When viewed at full resolution it appears as though I nailed focus. Hopefully eclipse day goes as well.

Focus looks good, I think your there for fov too...

I figure if I crop it down to 4K for a timelapse video this is my framing. I still think I'll get most of the corona.

Depends on your definition of most of the corona? Here is a gif animation with your full frame, your 4K frame and my wide field corona image of last years corona rolling though. Your 4K frame will probably clip coronal streamers significantly.

Thanks Joe. That's exactly what I was wondering about. The full frame doesn't look too bad to me but the 4K crop will surely be too tight.
