Arp 138

#1

Post by dcrowson »

Arp 138 is the pair of interacting galaxies at the bottom left. These are part of Arps, ‘E and E-Like Galaxies – Material Emanating from E Galaxies’ class but both are designated as spirals according to Simbad. These are located in Coma Berenices.

NGC 4015 (UGC 6965, PGC 37702, VV 216 and others) is the bottom galaxy located approximately 213 million light-years away.

MCG+04-28-110 (PGC 37703, VV 216b and others) is the top galaxy.

The more interesting galaxies might be the four at the top right – NGC 3987, 3989, 3993 and 3997. See the annotated image for the location of these and others.

Luminance – 45x600s – 450 minutes – binned 1x1
RGB – 8x300s – 40 minutes each – binned 2x2

570 minutes total exposure – 9 hours 30 minutes

Imaged February 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th and March 3rd, 4th and 8th, 2024 from Dark Sky New Mexico at Rancho Hidalgo (Animas, New Mexico) with a SBIG STF-8300M on an Astro-Tech AT12RCT at f/8 2432mm.
