Hyperstar + reducer

#1

Post by 1jimalexander »

I'm using a Hyperstar v4 on my c11 edge hd. I've attached the zwo asi533mc osc.

Is it possible to put a celestron .63x reducer into this train?

    Hi Jim,

Based on the info from the Starizona website, I don't see a way to do it. IMHO If you could, the results may give you aberrations on the edge that make the image no larger than what you would get without it (once you cropped out the misshaped stars).

The Hyperstar V4 operates at f/1.9 and the field size is 3.7°, that's big enough to fit the entire Andromeda galaxy. Also, the 533 sensor is smaller than your current image circle with the V4 attached (it's image circle is 35mm). Just curious, why do you think you need to use the .63 reducer?

Looks like somebody is trying to get their focal ratio down into negative numbers...

Thanks for the replies. When I use astronomy.tools with c11,hyperstar, zwo 533 plugged into the cells for imaging, Andromeda is getting clipped.
Is this because of the small image circle of the 533?

Yes, the 533 is a relatively small, square sensor compared to the APS-c 2600 or the Full frame 6200.

When I plug in my gear (plus the HyperStar v4, which I don't have) which includes my C11 and my ZWO ASI 294MC Pro, I can just get M31 to fit in. So I think you have two options for the REALLY big objects, either get a larger frame camera, or get a small short FL refractor, something like a Redcat 61. OR attach your DSLR with a kit lens to your mount and shoot away, the old fashion way!
