Hello everyone, Hopefully I will figure out how to navigate this site so hoping to get help with using a Meade 4504 telescope. Have so basic experience but not on this scope. I have found Meade to be of little help. I know this equipment may be used with a computer and some software but as I mentioned Mead was not helpful. Appreciate everyones time and comments.

Welcome, zacasx.

I don't know that scope or mount. I did have a look at the manual briefly online, and did not see anything about connecting to a computer. Hopefully you will find someone more knowledgeable.

Hi zacasx, welcome to TSS :D As for your scope, I had one in the '90's... I don't think you're going to be able to hook much up to this; it comes with a .965" focuser (1.25" is more usable) and at f/8 with a spherical mirror; you'd be better off using it for observing only. I wouldn't throw too much money at it. Still, a very usable scope for planets, the Moon and bright DSO objects (Orion, the Pleidaes, etc).

Hope this helps and all the best,
Mark

Hello and welcome zacasx.

As has been mentioned already this particular telescope cannot be connected to a computer but with some of the new telephone apps you could download a astro program and use that to help you find your way around the skies.
It would turn it into a push to.
You can purchase a adapter to use 1.25" eyepieces in the 0.965" focuser but if you look around online you can find the Antares 0.965" Plossl eyepieces.

Welcome to TSS, zacasx!

Actually Meade did make a later 4504 model with a go to Starfinder/ Autostar digital hand controller #35-4700-03. The hand controller looked similar to the #497 Autostar controller but without the numbered keypad. Here is an example of one for sale on eBay:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/176014745318?m ... media=COPY

zaccasx, do you have the hand controller and motors for the mount, and is this what your controller looks like? It is a very versatile controller and works on many Meade model mounts.

If you can get ahold of the Meade #35-4700-03 user manual, it will let you know if it can connect to a computer and what cables and software is needed, if it has that capability. I know the Autostar model # 497 can connect to a computer, but I have never used mine to do that.

I still use mine occasionally. I did upgrade the focuser to 1.25" but I never found the right motors so I removed the connectors and just used ordinary slow motion handles. Plenty good enough for planetary observations.
