12P/Pons-Brooks observing tips?

12P/Pons-Brooks observing tips?

Hi everyone,

I have not been on in a while. I am posting today because I saw on spaceweather.com that comet 12P/Pons-Brooks brightened to magnitude 9.3 due to an ice volcano eruption.

I am going to try to look at this comet tonight with my standard setup and my iPhone camera app.

I just have two questions. First, do you think my telescope will be able to see it? The telescope and setup I have is in my signature. I know I have seen magnitude 9 objects before, like the black eye galaxy, but I want to ask this anyway.

Second, any observation tips from anyone here?

I will update on how my viewing is going also.

Right now it's magnitude is observing at mag 10. I don't think you're 80 mm f/11 is going to give you much.

Yeah you should try. It might be going through an outburst, which it has done before. So it might be brighter than mag 10. Ultimately you don't know until you try. You might also want to try for C/2023 H2 Lemmon in Capricornus as well. It is currently listed at about mag 8.1. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Well done on the observation and capture, great to see!
Amazing what can be achieved with even a modest scope and cell phone.
Keep up the good work!
Eyeballs, binoculars, sketch box, Scopes n stuff.
Some people don't understand why I love astronomy so much, I cannot understand why they do not!
