A nice example of a 'festoon' in the equatorial belt, and a small dark red spot on the SEB. (I think clicking on the image brings a bigger image up)
The temp was only 2.5̊ C but with good seeing. The lights in the observatory failed, but fortunately I am used to finding everything in the dark! The session also included imaging Uranus, which I'll put up in another post. At the end of the session I noticed a bit of moisture had got inside the telescope! It was banished with a hair dryer I keep handy. I used to have a silica gel container which was fixed to the telescope when not being used, but it went missing when I moved. I ought to either find it, or get a new one. The anti-dew strips kept the outside clear. The next day I fixed the lights and did a bit of observatory housekeeping.
Jupiter is looking really good now it is back in the higher parts of the sky. In the original image it was possible to see a dark patch at the north part of Ganymede.
