Hi and welcome to TSS!

The 4mm with the Moon filter is probably a .965 lens, and that lens/filter set were often found on old Tasco's, Sears and the like. Hate to say it, but neither are really the best.

The Celestron is what's known as a "volcano top" lens and is probably good to quite good. I have a Celestron as well as a Meade from the early 80's that are the same configuration as your Celestron. The Meade is OK and the Celestron is a keeper for sure.

As for what to do with it, pop it in a scope and see how it does :D

All the best,
Mark

im sorry i should specify i am not into the telescope stuff myself so none of this is of value to me personally. in the box was a book called the sky observers guide copyright 1985, a lense cleaning kit from i assume the 80s, a telescope accessories pamphlet, a celestron accessory catalog i assume from the 80s,operation instructions for a made model 323: 3.1", a registration card for said telescope from 1989, and a register receipt for said telescope from the hobby shop for $726.96

It looks to me that you have 2 eyepieces: a Celestron 1.25" 12mm Ortho and a smaller 4mm .965" eyepiece with the moon filter screwed onto the bottom of it. (1.25" and .965" are the barrel sizes of the eyepieces.)

There is definitely a market for the Celestron eyepiece, and maybe a lesser market for the paperwork, book, pamphlets, etc along with the smaller eyepiece with filter attached. You could try advertising it all for sale with individual pricing in the classified section of this website and/or other astronomy forum websites, making sure to follow the rules of each website"s classified section. I believe the Celestron 12mm would sell for the right price. A collector might need some of your items. You can research what the 12mm eyepiece is worth by searching the astronomy forum websites classified sections and I believe the rest of what you have is probably a set price or best offer situation.

If you think it has some utility left you could offer it on the TSS classifieds for a low price or free for someone that will pay shipping. (I just noticed that @StarBru had the same idea before me). Preferable I would think than just throwing it away. I had an 8x50 RACI finder that was an extra that I gave away to someone in Texas on the TSS Classifieds.
