Newbie question on new asi2600mc firmware

#1

Post by JSTAR0057 »

Hello, I recently bought my first dedicated AP camera, the asi2600mc Pro. My question is, how do I find the firmware if any for it or read what the latest firmware is? I have to admit, ZWO website is a bit confusing to me. I downloaded the firmware tool and installed it, and downloaded their camera driver. When I run the firmware tool, it wants me to find the folder on my laptop with firmware. I don't understand what I missed.

Don't update the firmware unless the camera has a severe problem. I am not familiar with the firmware installer but it sounds like it is looking for a file to flash the canera with. Occasionally we get reports of users installing new firmware breaking their brand new devices for no reason.

The camera driver, the way I understand it, is either ASCOM or Indi and is meant to be used by client software. It has nothing to do with camera firmware.

I never had to install new camera firmware or camera driver for my ASI2600MC, I could start using it in Ekos that comes with all the drivers.

I’m with Henk. If it’s not broke, don’t fix it!

You can download the ZWO ascom and native camera drivers here:
https://download.astronomy-imaging-camera.com/software/

The native driver works for all ZWO cameras and once you install the driver, your aquisition software should locate the driver and allow a connection.

Yeah, what they said.

If you're using capture software running on Windows and the ASCOM driver, you will need to install the ASCOM Platform from here:

Spot on Graeme! I didn't think to mention that.

Might not need the ascom platform to use the native camera driver, but lots of folks prefer the ascom camera driver. I have always used the native camera drivers and hadn't had any issues, but I also installed the ascom drivers just in case I have an issue while imaging and I need another option.

Also, to run any ascom compliant peripherals like a guide scope, focus motor, and a host of other things you definitely need ascom!
