Boeing delays 1st Starliner astronaut launch for NASA indefinitely over parachute, wiring safety issues

#1

Post by smp »

From Space.com:
"Boeing is standing down from the first-ever crewed launch of its Starliner astronaut capsule for NASA, possibly indefinitely, due to safety issues with the spacecraft's parachutes and wiring that were discovered last week."

https://www.space.com/boeing-starliner- ... definitely

Why do we (in the US) keep paying for this incompetence?
EDIT: Apparently not true - see post #3 below.

Here's an interesting analysis from Ars Technica, indicating that the contract with Boeing is Fixed-Price, meaning that Boeing is not getting paid for all the overruns.

"To keep Starliner flying, Boeing must make some hard choices"

"...This has been a poor decision in retrospect because, due to the fixed-price nature of its contract with NASA, Boeing is largely responsible for cost overruns and losses due to ongoing delays. ..."

Then this project is going to be a loss leader for Boeing, and at the end of the day, probably not worth it. Thanks for the updates Stephen.
