Question for Celestron SCT owners

#1

Post by jrkirkham »

I do not trust the visual back on my C11. The set screws are small and I keep feeling like whatever I have tightened in there might slip out. I usually take the eyepiece, camera, etc. out when slewing for fear they might plop onto the floor. Has anyone else had that problem? Has anyone replaced their visual back? If so is there an upgrade that has worked well for you?

I haven't had any issues, but I only use 1.25" Plossls and I don't do AP. But this does look decent https://agenaastro.com/baader-1-25-clic ... -t208.html also available in 2" might be money well worth spent :)

Edit, https://agenaastro.com/baader-2-sct-cli ... hread.html

That's the sort of thing I am interested in. I wonder if anyone has tried a replacement visual back?

I still have my original. I have had no problems with it holding on to whatever I plug into it. That includes a Canon T3i DSLR. And I've never tightened it to more than just finger-tight. I don't think I have unusually strong fingers either.

I did not had any issues with slippage but I was worried about alignment. I have upgraded to Baader clicklock and love it. I have them on my SCT and Mak.

I added a GSO 2" linear focuser to my C8, the visual back that came with it couldn't handle the load.

I've used an Astro-Physics 2" visual back on my Meade 12" LX200 for at least the past 15 years. It uses a brass locking ring design that firmly holds a heavy CCD camera with filter wheel and it has never failed. This camera is installed on the scope 365 days a year and I'm 100% confidant the camera will never fall off.

~

TV offers a screw-on model. I have one and it works great to secure items on my C-8. I do no imaging.
