NGC 2424 (UGC 3959, PGC 21558 and others) is a spiral galaxy located approximately 152 million light-years away in Lynx. This one is about a half degree away from globular NGC 2419.
Imaged February 18th, 19th, 24th, 25th and 26th, 2022 from Dark Sky New Mexico at Rancho Hidalgo (Animas, New Mexico) with a SBIG STF-8300M on an Astro-Tech AT12RCT at f/8 2432mm.
Very nice image Dan. I had occasion to observe this galaxy visually earlier in Feb 2022. I was using my 17.5 inch dob at our dark site house. At the time I was observing NGC 2419 and noticed this galaxy northeast of the globular. Here is what I noted about it at the time:
NGC 2424 Lynx, barred spiral galaxy, mag=12.6, size=3.6’x0.5’, SBr=13.0):
I had noticed this galaxy 36’ northeast of NGC 2419 that I had not seen before. So it was easily scooped it up after finishing with the globular. At 152x it presented a slightly dim and thin elongated glow that was subtly large to the eye. It was evenly illuminated and very obvious within the field of view. It remained homogeneous in appearance at 199x as well.
