Post by dcrowson »

NGC 4261 (UGC 7360, PGC 39659 and many other designations) is the large elliptical at the center of the image. This one is located approximately 100 million light-years away in Virgo. This field is located between M61 and M49. See the annotated image for locations of numerous other galaxies as well as clusters Abell 1516 and 1523.

Luminance – 12x600s – 120 minutes – binned 1x1
RGB – 8x300s – 40 minutes each – binned 2x2

240 minutes total exposure – 4 hours

Imaged on March 14th and 19th, 2023 at the Danville Conservation Area (New Florence, Missouri) with a SBIG ST-8300M on an Astro-Tech AT90EDT at f/6.7 603mm.

Hi Dan. A very nice image of the NGC 4261 region RGBL light using your Astro-Tech AT90EDT telescope. Excellent contrast and you did a great job with this field of neighbors in your capture. Thanks for sharing this view and nice informative text with us Dan and keep up your great imaging work.

I love these types of shots, especially when annotated to show all the little fuzziness.

They always remind me of the first time I looked at the Hubble Deep Field image. I remember looking at it and reading the description and my mind just went "pop"!
Scope: Skywatcher Evostar 80ED (SW 0.85 FR/FF) on a SW NEQ6Pro
Guiding; SW Evoguide 50ED, ASI 120mm mini
Meade 8" LX200 GPS on wedge (Guided with a cheapo 50mm guidescope and a ZWO ASI 120mm mini)
Sharpstar 61EDPH II (with dedicated 0.8 reducer) with wiliam Optics 32mm uniguide
Camera: ASI2600MC pro. QHY 163M with ZWO 7nm NB filters, Canon EOS700D astro mod

Wonderfully framed, getting the right perspective on a shot makes all the difference to a shot. Nice detailed image Dan.
Cheers,

Tony.

Wonderful Dan. I like the annotation. The two little ACO's came out nicely resolved.
