Unceasing rain and snow here, providing at least one day time diversion--the mushrooms are emerging. Here's a Shaggy Mane, Coprinus comatus.

At least you get to see green. I just finished using the snow blower on four new inches of snow. This adds to the 96" we've had this winter.

The snow on the ground has mostly melted here. It snowed again yesterday but didn't stick because it was 35 degrees. Now it's mostly going to be rainy. But I'll be watching for those suckerholes....

I haven't been in the mood to do much observing lately either. Too much clouds and right now its nearly full moon too.
its far too hazy where I'm at most of the year.

I was out observing for a very short (failed) session tonight…

2023-03-11
21:45-22:00 CST (UTC -6)

It was 72 F, clear, and calm so I decided to get some observing in. So I brought my AT80ED telescope out and a cold front hit at the same time! The winds switched to the out of the northwest and clouds materialized out of thin air. Orion was still in the clear. With my 15 mm (37x) eyepiece, I was able to catch the multiple star system Theta Orionis, The Orion Nebula, and Hatsya (Iota Orionis) before more clouds moved in and the winds picked up to about 20 mph.

It quickly became too cloudy and windy to observe. As quick as I got my setup outside, I had to bring it back it in again.

Not me, I'm in Mesa, AZ visiting my children. I intended to visit the local Rotary telescope observing nights, but there were too many clouds.

The northern parts of the UK are getting snow, whilst here in the south we have only the occasional rain shower.

If not cloudy, it' clear, cold and windy. Haven't been out at all yet this year. Also goes that if it is clear and modest temps (+40F), wind blows 25-40mph.
I need a photon fix soon.....

With all of the solar sunspot activity lately, I thought that I would get out one the refractors with a solar filter and do some observing and catch up with the latest active regions in white light. After a nice week before of sunshine and temperatures in the mid 80's F everything suddenly went down the drain. Overcast, windy, and temperatures down into the low 50's F this week. I know that 50 degree temperatures might be a pleasant change for some of you further north but for us here in Florida it is very unpleasant.

Atmosphere/seeing is pretty bad right now. Can't really do anything. Too hard to even focus the telescope precisely.
Even taking like 10 shots of something and cherry picking the best one shows a very mediocre result thats disappointing because of the slight atmosphere disturbance blurring the image.
