John Glenn Orbits!

#1

Post by Unitron48 »

I certainly remember this flight and all the concern over the deployed heat shield: https://www.nasa.gov/image-feature/john ... into-orbit.

I was 14 years old at the time and really into tracking everything related to the "space race".

I was 5 and don't quite remember that but was fully tuned in soon after. Boy what a great and uplifting time that was.

Aww... I'd hoped that this was to declare that Blue Origin's New Glenn had snuck in an unanticipated Launch...

Hi Dave. I was just going on 16 when John Glenn was in the Mercury spacecraft Friendship 7 was launched. This epic moment started our future space programs and also the international "space race". Thanks for finding and sharing this interesting historical anniversary link with us on here Dave.

I was a bun in the oven in February of 62, I surely can't remember that! I remember learning about it in school during the Apollo missions.

Unfortunately not around until 1970, so I missed Glenn's flight and also Apollo 11. I do recall (faintly) the last moon landing where the astronauts drove around in the lunar rover. A bottle of TANG instant breakfast drink came with a lunar rover shrink-wrapped to the bottle. That was a fun toy that my mom got for me. Last Apollo I recall was Apollo-Soyuz mission in 1975.

I was 7 at the time. I remember watching the launch on TV, then my parents dragged me off to the circus in Boston. I was NOT a happy camper, I would much rather have stayed glued to the set for the full mission!
