Took out my 72ED last night for a casual scan around while this rare streak of clear nights lasts. Aside from several old stand-bys like M41, I decided to have a look at Collinder 69, AKA the λ Orionis cluster. Transparency was good - I was able to easily see several of the 9th magnitude stars to the east of λ. Usually I can just barely make out mag 8.5 or so stars with averted vision here. I was also able to see M50 though it was relatively faint and not super easy.
Since I woke up early today, I did a back-to-back with some lunar observing this morning. Unfortunately the seeing had degraded- it looked like the moon was swimming in an aquarium at anything over 50X. Still was able to get some transient sharp views though along the terminator - Triesnecker, Chladni, and others.
Clouds forecast for tonight, but supposed to be clear again tomorrow night.

Hello Olen. A very nice report of the Lambda Ori cluster using your 72ED telescope. It looks light the sky co-operated with you for at least one night and you also viewed M41 and M50 in your session. Thanks for your excellent report and chart Olen and keep looking up.
