I tried to image ZTF when it first poked its nose over the north horizon last Sunday. Even though it was 5 deg at transit, the full Moon washed out any chance.
With my mate Phil @scribbly , we drove up to my property after work yesterday and with ZTF up at 24 degrees altitude, we set up for a nights observing and photography.
I used a Rokinon 135mmED f2 and a Pentax 300mm f4 EDIF. The 135 mm shots were ok but I'm quite happy with the 300mm lens.
A Queensland newspaper is publishing the image tomorrow in the Sunday papers.
Images were captured over a couple of minutes at Feb 10, 12hrs UT 11pm local time. Gibbous moon rose at 11:25UT
Pentax K1 DSLR ISO 3200 7 x 20s. Pentax 300mm f4 EDIF
Both images are from the same capture and stack. In the first, I tried to suppress the LP from the Moon. I just stretched the second one much harder than the first and was less worried about masking the Moonglow. Bigger dark sky capture window.

That is an awesome image Joe! Just the fact that you imaged this target at 5 degrees of altitude is amazing!
Heck, I cannot see any horizon at 5 degrees or even close.

When the comet was at 5 degrees, I could neither see it nor pick it up photographically. These images from last night had the comet at 15-20 degrees altitude. So not such an amazing feat

15-20 degrees of altitude is still very low altitude!
