Venus - Saturn conjunction, January 22

Heads up for tomorrow's Venus - Saturn conjunction. Look west after sunset. With ~21' separation they will likely appear as a single bright star naked eye, but will be resolved in binoculars and scopes.

Checked them out last night with 10x50 binos. Nice view. Going to be clouded out tonight!

Monsoons here tonight

I did manage to catch it today. There were some clouds hanging in the west. Luckily a few minutes after sunset the sky has cleared enough to spot Venus. You had to look for it, but Saturn was visible even naked eye as fainter dot right next to Venus. Thin crescent of new Moon was below against sunset colors – what a pretty sight!

After enjoying the view naked eye, I have pulled my Onyx 80ED grab-and-go. It was perfect for the job. The planets were wider apart but still well within the FOV of Pentax XW 14mm (36x). Saturn was tiny but rings well resolved as well as larger near full disk of Venus.

Perfect start for 2023 observing year!

Hi Andrey and NG. Some wonderful images of the Venus/Saturn conjunction and that sliver crescent moon image is very nice NG. I saw that our skies were starting to get partially clear towards evening so I drove to a local park with a wide western sky opening (where I went to see and photograph a greatest eastern elongation of Mercury event awhile back). But it was a no go for me, however I did get to see some pretty orange clouds at sunset.

Nice pics there NG. I missed the event due to clouds. I did however, finish fine tuning the XLT so it is ready to go on the next clear night.
