Hey everyone, hope you're all smiling
Been a busy week, and the weather has not helped. From Monday to Wednesday there was a lot of rain, mild temps at 5-10C (40-50F) and more fog than I thought possible. Made driving on my mostly rural route a fun time. Wednesday night the temperature dropped, and Thursday we got 10cm's (4 inches) of snow. Not a big deal, but with the high winds it didn't help. Driving down a road next to a treeline; clear road. Pass by a farmers field that's to the north, and you hit almost a foot of snow that's piled up on the road with the wind blowing the snow south. I called it a day at noon. Played catch up Friday in the now -25C (-13F) cold, got in at 5, had dinner and went downstairs and fell asleep to a documentary about the SLS. Today I dragged my sorry carcass out of bed at 11AM. Memories of being a teenager...
I actually felt rested for the first time in a bit. A little too much white-knuckle driving this week. The girls had been up for a few hours and were watching Hell's Kitchen.
I had some coffee and volunteered to make french (egg?) toast as only I can. I'm not chef Ramsay, but it would probably pass his taste test. Everything after that would be an epic fail!
It was a nice day, though still cold. Sarah and I went to get some beer and steaks for a BBQ. There's something about a steak done on a charcoal BBQ in temps below freezing that lends a certain taste to it.
Before I lit the BBQ, I checked the SOHO website and saw there was a fair amount of activity on ol' Sol. Such a clear day at -20C (-4F); I thought why not? It's only cold out; not a bit of wind.
The Sun beaming down on me with all of its Vitamin D made it feel a bit warmer than it was
I got my usual arsenal; C80-HD, Baader 5.0 film, Solar Continuum and UV/IR cut filters and Canon EOS 550D on my CG4. I let all that sit outside for a half hour to acclimatise, then I took 130 shots at ISO 800 and 1/200th sec exp. Aligned those in PIPP, stacked the best 25% in AS3, mildly processed that result in ImPPG, and scaled the final image in PSP9 with the planets to scale.

AR3190 is a bit bigger than Uranus or Neptune (~50,000 KM's or ~30,000 miles in diameter); I placed Uranus for scale next to the spot:
Solar cycle 25 seems to be coming along nicely since late 2021; I started taking pics with this setup in 2016. Solar cycle 24; what a dud. However, It is fun to look to look back through the activity progression of our star since then!
One more beer, and I'm off to bed. The steaks were great BTW Have a great day/night all!
