Ah you're right, just the opposite. Einstein introduced it to explain a static closed universe, then Hubble came along in favor of the opposite. In response Einstein, Feynman and Weinberg believed the cosmological constant should be zero. Feynman states it explicitly, Weinberg discusses it then says he assumes it should be zero except in the chapter where he presents "other models".
