I'm sure this is obvious, but that is the worst position to use for bino viewing. Supine is the best because it provides the most stable platform for your handheld binos. I use a zero-gravity chair. Their downside is that they tend to lull you to sleep long before you're done! I put a small room heater under my ZG chair. It warms you without creating too much turbulence, maybe that's why I'm falling asleep.

You can adjust the angle by laying your legs on the back.

Great idea. I have a suggestion to make it even better.Lady Fraktor wrote: ↑Mon Dec 05, 2022 7:56 pm I have used one of these before as well, fill 1/2 to 3/4 with air and put your head on the front.

Take one of these 15" 1000lb capacity Lazy Susan bearings, attach a large piece of plywood, put your raft on the plywood, and using your arms, you can spin to any position to view!!! Just think of it, a fur blanket on the bottom and some blankets around you, and you could be out there for hours of bino fun!
I know it sounds goofy, but hey, if it works, it works!

You would need water proof binos though! ... and it might be a bit cold in the pool in the winter...Lady Fraktor wrote: ↑Mon Dec 05, 2022 7:56 pm I have used one of these before as well, fill 1/2 to 3/4 with air and put your head on the front.

This reminded me of when a friend took the swimming pool thing to the extreme: he made an "underwater" telescope, using a 4 1/2" mirror in a pvc pipe.
Apparently he was able to see the moon and Venus (sort of...). I don't think the "humidity" in the tube helped.
On a slightly more serious note: a bean bag can be used to good effect too, especially if you can work out some sort of "lazy susan" mount. I think I know what my wife would say though.

Re: First light with Celestron 10x50 G2 UpClose
Many good advices already on the observing position. When observing try to find rest for your elbows, against your chest or chair arms, this helps a lot.
When I started observing it was also hard for me to keep 10x50 steady. I bought 8x40 and used them for a while to hone my skills and then step up to 10x50.
My favorite prop for binoculars is monopod. Makes them much steadier, but you can use a broom with long handle for the same purpose.
