Nice Bill,

You are aware that the cloud Gods will exact a penalty upon you once the mount arrives at your home.

Congratulations Bill!

I have a Skywatcher HEQ5 Pro that I bought last year and I really enjoy it. I upgraded to the belt drive (which your EQ6R Pro already has) and it made a big difference!

I would have really liked going with the EQ6R-Pro, but I am not a big person and at 67 years old, the lighter HEQ5 model is easier for me to move in and out.

You are going to really love this mount! Not sure if you plan to image with it, but if you try or have tried EQMod, you might want to take a look at GreenSwampServer to control the mount with a direct cable. Works great for me. Just an idea.

Enjoy!
Jim

I'm painfully aware. When I bought my UV/IR filter, the weather went terrible and I ended up getting a foot of snow. I don't even want to think about what this mount and that scope I bought are going to bring. I might best stock up on canned goods and gas for the generator...

Thanks Jim. I definitely plan on getting into imaging with it. That's the main reason I bought it. I haven't tried EQMod but I do have it on my laptop. I've heard about GreenSwampServer and I'll check that out as well. Thanks for the suggestions...

GSS is just easy. If you are looking for a simple interface, you just start GSS and connect the scope using the GSS ascom driver. Then start your imaging software (N.I.N.A.in my case), and connect the scope (mount using the GSS telescope ascom driver. I also use the GSS scope driver in PHD2.
There are lots of other features in GSS that I don't use. One that you might be interested in is PEC.
Happy for you! You have a great mount!

You picked a rock-solid mount, very good choice. You'll be using it for years to come. I had initially decided on an AVX mount, but none were in stock, and supply was totally screwed by then, February of 21. My second choice was the EQ6-R and when it came in stock at Opt in May, I canceled the order for the AVX and jumped on it. Glad I did now! I've since added the AZ-EQ5 Pro, it carries my Z73. I'll be adding a third EQ mount sometime in the future, so I'll be able to use the AZ-EQ5 for EAA giving me something to do while the EQ mounts are imaging. :)

Well, for now, I figure I'll use the Eq6 for imaging, once I learn how to set it up, and the Az/Gte for observing. I also recently bought a Bresser Messier AR-127 scope that @JayTee had mentioned in a thread he started. That should arrive tomorrow. My plan is to try the Bresser for imaging and use my SvBony for visual. Maybe it will work, maybe not...Now, if I could put my Apertura AD10 on a mount.......

The mount arrived today along with high winds and rain. I set it up inside with the Bresser AR-127 and learning how to use it. I got to say that I'm going to love this mount. I'm currently trying to set up the software to control it with my laptop. There's a learning curve to this but I'm enjoying it. Hopefully, I'll get clear skies soon to try it out.

Thanks! Would have been nice if it came with a case. Oh well, guess I'll either buy or make one that fits the dimensions of the inserts the mount came with.

Well, I've only been able to use it twice due to weather but so far I'm happy with it. The only minor complaint I have is it would have been nice if the mount came in a case but I keep it in it's box and will eventually use the foam insert to make a case for it. It's a solid mount that has no problem handling my AR127s. I can't speak of the polar scope because Polaris is just behind a big tree across the street and the area of my yard I'd have to be in to see it is in the woods and almost like a swamp this time of year. I use the Three Point Polar Alignment app in N.I.N.A which seemed to work fine until my laptop decided it was time to retire. Getting it set up and connected to my laptop (when it was working...) was straight forward, no issues there. As I said, I've used it very little so it's always possible that some issue could eventually show up but so far so good. My only problem is using the hand controller to move it. I'm old school, when I push the "up" button, I want it to go up... ...as you are probably aware, that's NOT what happens on an EQ mount. Hopefully, the weather starts cooperating and I can log more time with this mount and form a better opinion.
