Catalog your DSO Images

(MODS) If this is inappropriate here, please delete

I often become frustrated trying to find my best/last image on local storage from the thousands that I have. This was also true for those I have posted on Flickr so I have created an app to do that. This is only available for macOS.

The app is Free to all TSS members and not for sale. That may change at some point when it holds more value.
I am building the Messier objects into the database and creating a online portal to update the database with more objects.

Contact me if you would like a copy.

Search for objects by target, name, constellation and link to your favorite resource web page for more information or record your own notes.

Messier objects are linked to NASA's web site.

Eventually I want to integrate it to KStars/Ekos to capture the imaging dates and detail and create a version that will run on the iPad.

That's my ultimate goal as it would be used already by many vs. a Mac laptop or Desktop. Although that's where the images end up for me.

I have yet to create a universal iPad/Mac app but now that they share the same processor, it is a new possibility.

I may create one in PHP on my cloud servers which will run on any device. The only issue is the cost of storage in the cloud vs. the local device for large images.

Interesting project! It is unfortunate (for me) that it is Mac only.

I would love something that helped me to determine if I have already imaged a particular target, especially if it included a cross-reference to various catalogues. So, for instance, if I wanted to image Sh2-189, it would be able to tell me that I had already imaged it as Abell 3. I have taken some steps towards developing an application to do that, but it is nowhere near operational yet.

I got excited when I saw your subject line, but...

Anyway, good luck with the project.

Thanks Kathy. I've always been a Mac developer, since 1984 and more recently PHP, Javascript but never for Windows.

The cross-referencing to tother targets is a goal too via the Description search where alternate names can be used for the target.

The only way I can provide an app solution for Windows OS or Android is via PHP and then it is cloud based. However, that may work better for acquiring the data from the imaging software and distribute wirelessly to other devices.

Maybe I should put more effort in the cloud based app.

This is a great post, Steve. I moved it over here because it seemed more appropriate since it is an app / software.

BTW, I'm a 100% Windows and Android user. So right now I'm sad! :(

I suffer from the same affliction. I have AP subs and finished images across 3 internal drives, an external 1Gb drive, and 4 thumb drives, so It would be lovely if you could include us sometime in the near future.

thanks Jay. I won't be writing any Windows software unfortunately.
