VLT adaptive optics
The large earth based telescopes with AO were usually only good for one thing, exoplanets. That's because the AO could only deal with fixing wave fronts measured by a single artificial star in a very small angular FOV . The VLT seems to have found a way to use it for wider angle type of views by using 4 laser beams not just one. One of the images is of IC4406 that is only 20" wide but it's a start. The video is nice to watch.
