In Search of Dark Skies, Holbrook AZ area (Anyone know of a good spot to setup?)

#1

Post by chris_g »

Hello all,

I am off next week in search of some truly dark skies for a remote observatory location I am contemplating in the Holbrook, AZ area. I was wondering if anyone knows of any locations in that area where I can put a telescope that doesn't cost anything.

Clear Skies,
Chris

Gear for the trip, WO Z73, AZ-EQ5, all camera gear, will be shooting with the L-Pro only. We will be making a stop about halfway, called Whiteflat Texas a Bortle 2 sky with permission to park for a while. Hopefully, clear skies will prevail.

I'll be traveling with one bag and have convinced my wife to do the same

I assume you are looking for something quite a bit outside of Holbrook, right? Just checked the dark site finder:
https://darksitefinder.com/maps/world.h ... /-110.0226. Its near Winslow where the Barrington meteorite crater lies. Overall nice area and Phoenix is not too far away. I'd be interested if you see a light dome from Phoenix/Scottsdale.
