Could someone give me an explanation as to the difference between a NINA and some thing like a StellarMate is. I get the sense they are essentially the same thing.

A brief internet search indicate that stellermate is Linux based image aquisition and NINA is Windows based. They are both image aquisition software. Stellermate can run on a raspberry pi. NINA will require a laptop running Windows.

NINA is just software, StellarMate is a Raspberry Pi running Linux, pretty much the same as a Pi with Astroberry. Stellarmate is a product of the main developer of Indilib.org. It is cheaper than ZWO ASIAir and more open, probably better IMHO. These boxes are very good to attach to the OTA right by the equipment so you can remote log into it from your couch. Astroberry is a one stop shop for data acquisition. You can export a drive to your PC for processing the images.
