PC Processing Monitor Calibration

#1

Post by Juno16 »

Hi folks,

I just wanted to post this to let anyone like me that have always had issues with the colors of their processed images across different platforms (pc's, phone, ipad, etc.).

I have always considered my ipad to be my color balance standard. So, I would send 200 images by email (only a slight exaggeration) to myself so that I could evaluate them on my ipad, then go back to my pc and edit and repeat. It is a very painstaking process and takes a lot of time (and is very inefficient).

Recently, I purchased a Datacolor SpyderX Pro monitor calibration tool to color calibrate my processing pc monitor. ($166 on Amazon). It is extremely easy to use and the color calibration process is pretty much automatic.

The results are phenomenal! With my calibrated processing pc monitor (my desktop), now my images display the same color profile on all of my devices. Display panel brightness does make some difference, but I never imagined how much easier it is to process an image without sending emails of in-process images so that I can check them on my ipad (which, by the way, is very accurately color calibrated).

I hope that this helps someone!
Jim

I used to have the Pantone Huey color calibration device when I had older HP monitors. I recently upgraded to newer 4k LG monitors and found the old Pantone Huey just not calibrating right. I'll have to check out the SpyderX. Thanks.

I've read a lot about it. I've just been putting it off. Maybe Santa will be nice to me this year. And I'm sure it will come from Amazon so if I don't like it or feel it still doesn't work properly, it will be returned.
