Astrophotography: nPAE Southern Hemisphere 2022 Winners

#1

Post by nPAE »

It’s with immense pleasure we announce the winners of the 2022 nPAE Southern Hemisphere Astrophotography Competition!

It was an enormous challenge to judge this year’s entries.

Firstly we’d thank all of our contestants for entering and for the effort they put into the competition. It wouldn’t have been possible without their hard work and effort. So, without further ado.

The winners in reverse order are:
3rd Place – winning a £50 nPAE Voucher is…
Ben: Rho Ophiuchi Cloud Complex.

2679

This wide field 6 panel mosaic was taken with a ZWO 2600MC camera and SAMYANG 135MM lens on a Heq-5 mount with an ASIAIR PRO and ZWO Electronic Automatic Focuser and processed in Pixinsight.

2nd Place – winning an nPAE Theia Astro Imaging Filter Changer is…
Niall: The glory of Saturn

2680

Taken with a Celestron C14 Edge HD refector on a Paramount MX+ mount and ZWO ASI 174MM camera with Chroma RGB filters and a Tele Vue 3x Barlow, it was processed with “Lucky Imaging” :)

1st Place – winning £200 cash is…!
Rodney: NGC2004 et al

2681

Rodney’s magnificent NGC2004 and other nebulas in found in the constellation Dorado. Taken with a Takahashi TSA120 and QSI683 CCD camera. The calibration, integration and post processing was completed in Pixinsight v1.8.9

The close up detail is very special!

That makes it a clean 1st, 2nd and 3rd sweep for the Aussies this year!

Well done to Rodney, he now goes forward to challenge for the nPAE World Champion Astrophotographer 2022 title.

The nPAE 2022 World Champion Astrophotographer title will pitch last year's winner: Hugo from Argentina with his Helix Nebula, against Yann from France with the Spaghetti Nebula who won the 2022 Northern Hemisphere round against Rodney’s NGC2004 in a public vote on the 21st to 30th October.
