Re: World worst baffles?
With the baffle rings being slotted and lined up, light coming through the objective has a direct path to the focuser.
Turning the middle ring so it blocked that path between 1st and 3rd baffles would make a slight difference.
If you enlarge the image you can see that the top of the baffle has a flat surface which appears to be 5-6mm wide.
That flat surface becomes another flat surface for light to bounce off of and scatter through the tube. Multiply that by 3 and the tube interior is fully lit front to back.
Good baffles are as thin as possible with the shadow of the front baffle falling on the baffle face of the one behind.
This help prevent light being able to scatter.
For example here is my 80mmf/ 7 from slightly further away.
You can see how the solid, thin baffles significantly cut down the light scatter.
Everything past the 2nd baffle fairly hidden.

Re: World worst baffles?
First time I've seen that complex a set of baffles. Appreciate your explanation. Given that, why do you think any manufacturer would go through the trouble to design it into their telescope?

I’d guess that the only explanation I can think of would be sheer self defeating stupidity.

Re: World worst baffles?
Honestly Dave I can think of no reason why someone would do this other than to make it look 'fancy' for the uneducated.
The whole set up is the opposite of what you would want happening.
Using flocking alone would perform better than all of those flat surfaces to reflect light.
Since there is no factory mark on the objective beauty ring, but they do advertise the dual speed focuser on it (??) I imagine it is one of the many poor quality beginner telescopes to lure people into spending their money.
I will keep looking for the site I took the image from, hopefully there will be some clarification from it.
