A newbie here

Hi,

I am new to this community having just been given a Galaxee 45-090286. This is my first telescope, so I am excited to learn to use it. I have read JayTee’s write up for new owners; even with my limited knowledge, it seems excellent and a good place to start. I live in Green Valley, AZ, latitude 31.8731830 N.

I have a very limited view of the sky because my back yard is bordered on three sides by houses with trees on the fourth side. Do any of you have limitations such as these? I may have to haul my telescope to some other location, but how could that work?

Do any of you have any experience with this instrument?

Any comments appreciated.

Welcome on board BamaFan! As long as a portion of the sky is clear, you can observe. The sky rotates and new targets will slide into your clear window depending on the time and date.

Galaxee 45-090286 does not ring the bell, are there any other labels on your telescope?

Hello BamaFan. It's great to have you on board here with us on TSS. I have almost the same problem with a house on one side and one in back, plus big trees, so I have to set up near the end of my driveway, or go around the curve of the front sidewalk to the side of our house for a better location. The only other alternative is to load up some telescope gear into your car and look for something nearby, like an open park or field. Hello and welcome aboard. Sounds like you have an older Tasco reflector. As was stated previously, even with limited access to the sky, there will be objects to observe. Hopefully the houses and trees block out the street lights!

Welcome aboard BamaFan. With your southerly location there should be many objects to observe and as Bigzmey points out the earth moves and the sky appears to rotate above you from east to west so there always will be new objects in the east to observe.

Hi BamaFan, welcome to TSS! I gather the scope you have is a Tasco 4.5" reflector. As Bigzmey mentioned, are there any other labels? A 4.5" is a decent starter scope to be sure, and free is a good introduction to the hobby

Yes, it is a Tasco. The id tag says D=90mm, F=900 mm. I do have access to a large parking lot nearby that I could go to that would give me unlimited sky. Thanks for your help.

Well, I certainly got that wrong... I thought the "45" at the beginning of the model number meant 4.5" inch. Sounds like it's a 3", does it look like this size wise?

I did find your telescope on a Australian site so it is definitely a 90mm x 900mm focal length refractor with either a EQ-1 or EQ-2 mount.
Do you have a manual for the telescope?
