Western Veil Nebula

Hi all.

Heres an image of the Western Veil Nebula.

The data was taken by my friend, Tony Boutle and i processed it using pixinsight.

His equipment is as follows:

30 x 180 second light frames
30 x 180 second darks

Altair 72 EDF Scope,
ASIAir Pro contoller
ASI 533MC
Main Cam
ASI 120MM Guide cam
Antares 60mm Versascope Guide scope
Celestron AVX Mount

Your friend captured some nice detail and your processing brings it out very well! On a personal preference note, I am a fan of boosting the color just a bit

Thankyou. I personally dont like too much colour but i do understand its a personal taste.

Very nice image. I like your processing. If you give it another go as mentioned I would do some star reduction on it too. It's just the nature of where the Veil resides, deep in the milky way, that the stars really over-power most images in this region. Since you are using PixInsight, I would recommend a quick run of Bill's PixelMath routines. It's super simple.

I like the video but my laptop is too old for StarNet++ to run (was made before 2013 which, from what ive read thats too old)

I tried installing StarNet++ a few months ago and it didnt show up anywhere in PI. I tried the standalone version and it just kept throwing up errors and would not run.

From the video i see that you need a starless image.
Ive tried many ways to create a starless image as i can see how helpful it could be yet ive never managed to create one

Yes, your image is a little heavy on the stars. But we all know from experience that this target, as already mentioned, is a dense starfield, and, personally, I think your present image is still pretty good. It gives a sense of what's there in the sky. If anything, the stars can be even more overwhelming depending on how you process it.
