I’m not expecting an award but I got so pumped just seeing Saturn & Jupiter last night !
I tried to capture Saturn thru my I phone a feeble attempt but it was FUN!
I actually made a video but I can’t seem to upload a video just stills

Hi Frank. A fine Saturn image in afocal mode using your iphone camera and you have a nice ring system in your capture. Thanks for sharing this with us on here Frank and as Mark said, it can be fun on the moon and Jupiter too.

Re: Video of Saturn
Amen brother I took the picture thru the lens that you so kindly gifted me!
I could not get a picture with the two inch lens provide with the scope, not enough definition and 9 mm that came with the scope also, the image was great but the apeture of the lens was so small I could never line it up!
I don’t know what was better, seeing the rings of Saturn so defined or to see Jupiter and being able to see the bands and the red spot on it but it had a overall blueish hue to the whole thing !
Also being able to see the moons surrounding both planets was a kick in the pants!
It was a bonus night, moon, planets and a few star clusters with satellites flying around out there, who knew space could be so busy !
I stayed out till about 2:am this morning and it was worth it my friend !

Re: Video of Saturn
Exactly my friend and of course I “ found” it by accident,I started looking for galaxies with no luck ,saw a few star clusters then faced south eastern watched the moon come up around 11:30 PM looked at that for a while but then I noticed off to the right at about 2 o’clock from the moon (if the moon was a clock dial) and I said to myself “gee what the heck is that bright thing that’s an awful bright star” and it was Saturn .
I hate to admit it but after that discovery L O L,I then was looking at the moon again and this time again said to myself “ wow what’s that shiny thing at about 9 o’clock from the moon and it turned out to be Jupiter.
Thing is,I have a hard time staying awake past midnight and for the last two weeks it’s been overcast with afternoon rain showers but last night was the first clear night and if I hadn’t stayed up late I wouldn’t have seen either of them.
You can bet your bottom dollar I’m staying up late tonight

Re: Video of Saturn
Sounds legit to me. It does not matter how you found it as long as you observed it and properly identified. I do it all the time. Re: Video of Saturn
Great shot Frank!
For me, Saturn is probably the most beautiful sight to observe. After an even of looking at faint fuzzies with averted vision, for me, nothing beats a quick look at Saturn before closing down for the night.
It looks like a model of the planet hanging from the ceiling with a flashlight shining a flashlight on it!
Crisp and clear and almost posed!

The video was exactly what you described, like someone holding up a model of it with a flashlight shining on it, I could even make out Europa and a few other moons !
Hi Frank,
You could always upload the video to a file hosting site like Google drive and post the link. Just a thought
Not sure if you can see it when I’m looking at it the circle just spins you know like it’s trying to upload but there was an arrow in the right top corner and I tapped on it and it took me right to the video. This is all new to me so I’ll have to work it out.
Gee if I had known there was so much to see I would have started decades ago !

@Frankskywatcher
Thanks Frank!
Cool video!
I know that you are enjoying this hobby. I enjoy it very much too. My only regret is that I wish I had started before my 60’s!

Re: Video of Saturn
Tell me about it my friend !
I’m 66 retired, I worked at an Ivy League University for 32 years .
I used to take my kids to open telescope nights at the University, I was always interested but living in light polluted skies.
When I moved to where I now live with no lights at night and dark skies I decided to buy a telescope BUT this Forum has put me light years ahead of where I would have been and I have been gifted things that helped me tremendously !
Gee if I had known there was so much to see I would have started decades ago !
