I got notification that SSp 7 is on 50% sale and wondering if it worth getting if one already has ver 6?

Anyone here has both versions and can comment on differences?

For those who don't have SS, it is good time to get the app. Out of all astro apps I ever tried SS pro is the best.

Hi Bigz,

I wish that I had upgraded from SS5 Plus to 6 pro when it came out. I recently upgraded to SS7 Pro and the features are immense. The depth of the object database is phenomenal. But, I have had a hard time figuring it out. Just trying to get back to using the same features that I use in SS5 Plus has taken awhile. I was really comfortable with the "way you do things" in version 5 and it required me to switchgears for SS7.

However, it is well worth the upgrade (from 5 to 7 anyway) for me because of the object database. I am still learning, but I've pretty much got the hang of things in 7. It is nice to still have a fully functioning SS5 Plus though!

Thanks Jim! I had the same issue with SS6 pro when I have upgraded from SS5 pro. I kept SS5 pro for a few months until I got comfortable with SS6. As far as object databases SS6 was a great improvement over SS5, I hope they add even more to SS7. :)

I just last week upgraded from 6 to 7 and can say it's a nice improvement.
In 6, I believe the PGC and GAIA databases were add-ons you had to pay for. They are included with SS7Pro. You still have to download them separately though. In case you don't have the storage capacity for them. GAIA database is pretty big.
There's one thing I still find kind of annoying and that is the scope rotation angle. I use SS7 to determine framing and I have a rotator so I sometimes like to adjust the FOV rotation. The only way I know how to do it is to click on the observe button / scope display button / select the scope I want to rotate / click on the Field Rotation Angle option / then make the adjustments.
It would be great if they could make a button you could add to the toolbar that would take you directly to the Field Rotation Angle option. There are so many buttons I turn off already. I don't use the "Tonight", "Calendar", "Compass", "LiveSky" buttons and several others, so there's plenty of room on my toolbar for a "FOV Rotation" button.

I agree Greg. A FOV Rotation button would be great. I SS5, it’s only two clicks. I’m fairly new to it and just thought that I was missing something.

Thanks

Currently I'm an. SS6 Pro user. I saw the ad for 50% off today and was on the fence until I read this thread. I guess I can afford one less case of beer to get SS7 pro.

I am a big SS Fan - I did get SS7, and was/still am a Beta Tester.

Sadly, I have not had much of an opportunity to use it for various reasons. :(

I like the looks of it though.

That's what I thought to and went for it. :D I definitely appreciate PGC and GAIA databases inclusion and they have fixed the red keyboard bug so I can finally use night mode on my Galaxy S10 phone.

So I purchased SS Pro 7 today. After downloading the base program I opened it and this is what I saw,

Translated that means 1.8 terabytes of data. I'm still downloading it.

Isn't that 1.8GB? No device that I am aware of would be able to handle 1.8TB.

It's 1.8GB, Not TB.
It is the GAIA file that takes up most of that. I don't think you really need it unless you want that level of detail.
Remember, in the previous version, you had to buy the GAIA catalog if you wanted it. It's included for free now, except the download cost if you are on an Internet metered system.

Thanks Brett, obviously I have some Monday fog going on in my brain. Attention, all personnel, it's not that big.
