My first time shooting star trails.

I finally attempted a star trail shot. I shot this Wednesday night, 7/6/22 in Lincoln NH. I was on the southern shore of Profile Lake overlooking the Eagle Cliff area. This shot is 78x60” subs stacked via DSS. I was planning on more, but dew became an issue and I had to stop. Thanks for looking.

Excellent, I would say! For grins, this is my first attempt at star trails....taken sometime in the 1950's with one of my Dad's camera's and developed and printed in my darkroom! I was 10 or 11 at the time

This is awesome! Shooting on film had to be MUCH harder. No test shots with instantly viewable results.

Thank you! , there is very minimal processing done at all. A small saturation boost, exposure and contrast adjustments and that’s basically it, besides obviously the stacking. I may download starstax and try that, I heard the trails come out smoother. Mine are very jagged, but you don’t notice unless you zoom way in.

Thank you! It’s so easy to do, just is time consuming while the camera dies the work. However I was in such a dark skies I was using binoculars to see how many Messier objects I could come across visually to pass the time.

That is a beautiful star trails image. As you claim this is an easy image to obtain even for a beginner. It would help those starting out if you could list the camera you used whether it was through a telescope or a lens and if it was on a tripod or a telescope mount?

There is a great piece of freeware for making amazing star trail images, it's called StarstaX. I have yet to use it but I've seen its results. Your image makes me want to go out and see just what this software is really capable of.

Thank you. This was 78x60” shot with a Canon T3i with a kit 18-55mm lens at 18mm. The camera was on a tripod and activated by intervalometer. I stacked the images with deep sky stacker.
