CELESTRON Travel Telescope 21035 D70/F400 please HELP

#1

Post by Kat_77 »

Hello Everyone,

I'm a total newbie in desperate need for help! My son got into planets and I bough him used CELESTRON Travel Telescope model 21035 D70 / F400. While learning how to set it up small black part fell out. Based on my research it looks like a brake plate. I have no idea where and how to put it back in its place! Anyone knows what I'm talking about and how to fix it please??

Thanks so much in advance,
Kat_77

Hi Kat_77, welcome to TSS! Can you provide a better description; the whole scope is black  Was it from the focuser end or the front? I'd say take a pic, but that will take some more posts before you can do that :D A description of size and shape would help for sure.

All the best from a fellow Canuck,
Mark

Hi Mark,

Thanks so much for your prompt response, greatly appreciated! The part is rectangular, 2 3/4" long and 0.5" wide. It fell out when I was manipulating with the focus knob (unscrewed the screw holding it - dah...) and the chrome barrel (or a tube) came out completely. Then the small rectangular part fell out. I hope I'm naming parts properly! Total newbie lol and too excited to read the manual or watch YouTube before touching the telescope...

Hi Kat, from what you're describing it sound like the part that the tension screw locks into on the focuser. If it is what I think it is, it should go back onto the top of the focuser before putting the barrel in. I wish I had pics of what I'm describing...

Make a few more posts (I'm here) and then hopefully you can put up a pic soon after your fifth post.

If you don't mind me saying, you might be able to pick up a better scope used; I've found some nice deals on Kijiji :D

All the best,
Mark

Hi Mark,

I may definitely look into getting a better one but this one, as you can see, is a great practise for me lol

You may be right, I do have a small focuser attached to the scope though. Are there 2 focusers?? That small part fell out of the big barrel not the small focuser. Pictures would definitely help!

I do attach erect image diagonal and eyepiece to that chrome barrel.

Hi again Kat, one of the "focusers" is a viewfinder, meant for sighting on your target. The focuser part is the chrome barrel.

Methinks the small part fell out of the top of the chrome barrel part; it rides just under the silver thumbscrew pictured at top to the left of the focuser. It's a part that enables you to lock the focuser into place and adjust the tension.

Hope that helps,
Mark

Hi Mark,

That's exactly what I'm talking about! Thank you so very much for your help! I'll try to put it back in place :)

If I have any issues with that hopefully I'll be able to post a picture next time.

All the very best to you!

If you do have issues getting the piece back in place it is sometimes easier to remove the focuser (3 screws) put it back in place, snug the 2 tiny grub screws and the tensioner and then replace the focuser.
It is pretty hard to really damage anything on the focuser end of the telescope.
I hope you and your son enjoy the views :)

Welcome to TSS Kat. Late to the thread but sounds like maybe the issue will be resolved.
