AR3035 - 7th July 2022

I thought I would try again at getting a sunspot photo this afternoon. The 11" SCT is still not correctly collimated, but it is a bit better. As well as the usual reflective film sunfilter, I used the poor man's solar filter Wratten 58 (Dark Green)

The sunspot group has only recently emerged, and seems to be quite active with various features in the dark umbra; probably arcs of matter. This image is from the built in gallery, and limited in size, but it shows it quite well. I've included a closer image of the main spot, exposed to see detail in the umbra.

It may be a combination of both Aratus ;)

Either way, you corrected it for yourself which is the most important thing :)

Hi Aratus. A very nice AR3035 sunspot region with the C11 telescope. That close up is really good and also shows the plage and solar granularity. Well done Aratus and thanks for sharing this work with us.

Most people don't get the AR numbers or the orientation right. We all love it when people do and care enough to educate people like me who just like to put an image out there and learn from others with more care.
I love your dedication and wish i was more capable and set a better example.

What camera are you using?

Fraz.
Mentored by Keith, Mike, John and Bill. (The old guard) and forever grateful.

Spending obscene amounts of money building a big fracking solar telescope.
(Trying my best not to curse or swear :) )

Many thanks. It is a Canon 1300D (Rebel T6). I use Backyard EOS, and Registax to choose and stack the images. Focussing is a big problem with such poor seeing conditions, but I take about 2000 images, and choose 5 or 10% best. I know that better results can be obtained with a barlow, and I might try that again.
