Milky Way in the White Mountains, NH

#1

Post by Dyno05 »

Hi, I shot this Sunday night 7/3 at about 11:45 pm from the Pemigawasset overlook on the Kancamagus highway. It’s a single 105” exposure with a stock Canon T3i and kit 18-55 lens at 18mm riding on an AVX. If you notice the green in the image, it turns out there was air glow and Aurora happening about that time AND I MISSED IT! As I flicked through my subs I saw what looked like clouds moving through, but after processing I saw they were green. The day after I shot this, I saw an image from the Mount Washington observatory of airglow and purple Aurora spikes from the same time I was shooting but I was not looking northward at all. I was looking east, and south. I’m so upset I missed an opportunity of finally capturing some Aurora. Thanks for looking.

Sorry about that... Looking in the wrong direction and all..

But you bring back a memory. The only time in my life that I saw the aurora was up there in that part of the world. I was a few miles over, in Randolph VT. It was a great moment.

Oh, and I do like your MW shot. At least you got a good one.
