Milkyway setting over high country hut

#1

Post by scribbly »

Hi,
another of my nighscapes; a panorama (approx 13 30-sec subs) in a National park in the the Snowy Mountains region near Canberra, AUS. We call this our "high country" (so not so high for other continents but still gets snow up there), and many "iconic" (to the region) slab huts have been constructed (in the past by farmers etc but now used by hikers etc).

Not a great night for photography with much scattered cloud darting across the images but it does create some atmosphere given this weather would be more typical than clear nights. Taken in November but still near zero celsisus. I have also probably "pushed" the foreground a bit too far, but hey I was learning (and like us all, still am).

This was first night "solo" after doing one of Joe Cali's ( @OzEclipse nightscape courses, which was called midnight madness as it was held in winter and we were out to well after midnight.

Nice shot Phil.

All that cloud adds lots of mood hanging over what I'm guessing is Brayshaw's Hut?

Hello again Phil. Another superb nightscape image with the Milkyway. It looks bold and beautiful with lots of details. And again you have nice foreground coverage and I can make out the hut. Thanks for another treat Phil and I hope that you keep up your fine work.

Thanks, I am glad you liked it. It is a very nice place to visit. Posted this prompted by your request to the earlier image. I do have a few other images that I will post in time. I have started taking tracked sky/untracked foreground images, which are nice (only 1-2 so far as they take a huge amount of effort to to process).

Cheers, Phil

Thanks for all the comments, and I very much appreciate the APOD.

Yes Joe, Brayshaws hut. I think I will try and get back there this year for a second attempt.

That's a wonderful panorama. And a bit of an usual composite, with the hut being sheltered by the stars.

Very nicely frames.

Congrats on the APOD.

I think that the clouds provide tension and a dark atmosphere to the image. Great work!
