Astro Trivia Quiz June

#1

Post by OzEclipse »

Hi quiz fans,
It looks like Ray is busy this month. I hope he doesn't mind. I had a go at setting a quiz of my own for some of my friends so I thought I'd share it with all of you.

It's really quite hard and time consuming creating a quiz. I can now understand why he doesn't do one every month and I appreciate his efforts all the more. Sorry, no science fiction. It's not my wheelhouse. Not sure how hard/easy you'll find this. Go easy on me, this is the first time I've tried something like this.

Enjoy:-

Good one! I had to rely on some lucky guesses to get 15/20. Thanks.

Ray is taking a bit of a hiatus in developing and posting quizzes. He also shares the quizzes that appear here on an email newsletter sent by the East Bay Astronomical Society every month. Thanks for picking up the slack Joe!

Thanks Joe,
I have put a second one together which I'll post in a few weeks for July & August. I'll be travelling, going to a 9 day star party in Qld so won't have time.
Interesting, the first took me many many hours spread over several weeks. The second took me about 2 hrs today. Hopefully, I'll get quicker.

10/20 here. I guessed on a few and got them right! Otherwise, I was nearly stumped.

A fair 12/20 from me.
I should definitely have thought harder about some, but one was reliant on information that you're not likely to know, no matter how much you know.

Fair comment.

The longest year question was a question I heard on a talkback radio quiz. I knew the answer. I must be a time geek.
I thought it was challenging but did not realise how hard it was until 8/10 got it wrong. Seems like everybody guessed one of the 5 answers.

It was my first attempt setting a quiz like this and I was trying to have a mix of easy and hard questions. Will try to make the hardest questions easier next time.

Nice quiz, Joe. Thanks for filling in. 17/20 here. The last one was a total guess, which I missed. Think I'd know better have lived through the last half of the last century :) - and I did use the calculator where you said we could!
